Fishing for Rainbows

A trip to my local water armed with a small spinning rod and a small floatsetup for rainbows.

Rainbow trout are only in rivers because they are stocked there and at my local river they are stocked every couple of months. I had heard that they had recently been stocked so I decided to take a trip there armed with a small spinning rod setup and a small floatrod setup. When it comes to which spinners to use here it's down to trial and error but i find that small spinners which have red, silver or gold on them seem to work best.

The float setup was a simple stickfloat with the bulk of the shot near the hook. Worms being the bait of choice.

It started off slowly partly to do with the bright sunlight but as the afternoon grew later I started picking up the odd chub and rainbow on the float. And you can tell when you hook a trout. I was soon catching them on the spinner aswell although I was picking up more perch than trout fishing this way. The trick was to retreive the spinner past overhanging banks and weedbeds. I ended the day with a freezer full of fresh trout.

More adventures to come from this stretch in the future. T.Bawn
