After a recent delivery of goodies from PVA Baits we decided to test the Kamasan B775 Barbless carp specialist hooks we had been given on a demanding stretch of local river, where the chub and barbel fight hard and love snags. So strong hooks are essential! So on and august afternoon armed with a feeder rod and a bag of Nash monster barbel pellets we headed up the river to one of our favorite spots. The set up was simple really with just a size 10 Kamasan hook tied directly to the mainline and a small BB shot to help the bait sink a little quicker. A bait band is slipped on to the hook and the bait mounted as shown in the picture. This set up is simple but gently cast in between weed beds and deep runs will bounce along the bottom and can bring on instant takes. And this is why the hooks need to be sharp and strong. Once the fish are hooked they are off to the nearest cover! Once in our swim and after a little paddling out with bare feet I flicked my rig out into a shallow run which runs nicely under a bank of nettles on the other side. |

Almost immediately the rod tip flew around and I had the first fish on. It was a nice chub around 4lb and it too went to every snag possible but, with a good hook hold and a little persuasion it came nicely to the net. From then on I had numerous Chub and a Barbel on the same rig from that swim and every time I struck I got instant connection with the fish. The hooks were working a treat and really were making a difference. In fact I was so impressed I don't think I will go back to the ones I have been using in the past! I have to give these hooks ten out of ten because i just can't fault them! |
