The food
This may vary from group to group but the food provided for us was rather good considering we were on the side of a mountain. In the mornings we usually had a bowl of porridge which was chocolate porridge on the last day. Eggs and toast were also provided with the usually jam to spread on. Although most of us had to force it down due to lack of appetite. We were given a packed lunch to carry with us and this usually contained and carton drink, a small cake, a roll with unidentifiable contents(nice though), crisps, a chocolate bar and a few pieces of fruit. Dinner on an evening was usually soup to start, which varied from banana to veg. Main course was usually some sort of mild vegetable or chicken curry/stew with rice or pasta. And to top all of that there was always a cup of tea or coffee available and plenty of pop corn. Great idea the popcorn.
The Water
When it comes to drinking water you have a few choices. At first you may well be offered bottled water to fill up your water bottles and bladders. But carrying bottled water all of the way up is not an option so the guides and porters take water rom the various mountain streams coming off Kilimanjaro. They will boil it for you which is a good idea but takes time. If you have a water purifying pump then take it with you on this trip. It's quick and easy to use and you know the water has been cleaned. You can add iodine into the boiled and pumped water, but not to much. It can make you sick so try water with iodine in before you go to make sure it doesn't effect you in any way.

If you do choose the boiled option make sure you take a small bottle of squash with you to add to it, because boiled water has an acquired taste.

Remember that you will need to drink at least 2-3 litres of water on each stage of the trek and it's a good idea to drink a couple of cups of water before you leave and drink plenty of fluids on the evenings. Luckily for us Andrew brought a water pump with him so we were all saved. Take it if you have one.
