- Yellow Fever. You need this jab to enter the country and with good reason. Yellow fever is common in east Africa so you need to have this at least a 2 weeks before you leave. When I had mine done it cost about £40 but you can get it on the NHS but don't ask how I don't want to go into that minefield!

- Malaria. Now some people don't have malaria tablets when they go and some stop when they get above a certain height. My advice is to ignore what you are told and take Malarone every day you are there. Why? well we were told that mosquitoes didn't go above a certain height, yet on the last but one camp the little blighters got me!

- Hepatitis A & Typhoid Fever. A combined jab now takes care of these two. It's best to have this one at least a month in advance. It was free for me so I guess it's free for everyone. It leaves you with a soar arm for a couple of days but no real side effects.

- Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio booster. This is much the same as above. It's a combined jab and was free for me. Soar arm too but no side effects.
