Route on OS Explorer OL12:

Start at the lay-by*GR870195* near the sheepfold on the A4067. From here there is a path leading straight up to the summit of Fan Gyhirych at *GR881191* The path then leads east. Follow this path down to *GR897194* where you will need to turn left onto a track heading north east to *GR902204* Here a track on the left heads back on itself down into the woodland. Follow this track to the end. From here you have to make your way through the woodland to *GR889204* to where you will pick up another path. Turn left and follow parallel to the A4067. Eventually to will see the sheepfold and lay-by and hit the path you came up which goes back to *GR870195*

.

This is a fairly short walk but a fairly hard accent at the beginning. But because you gain height fairly quickly you also get the views within 45 minutes of walking (weather permitting!). The summit of Fan Gyhirych isn't really a classic but a walk on top is well worth the hard work at the start. And when you reach the end of the path in the woodland you have to make your way through the rest without a path but you will soon find the other path as you leave the woods. If in doubt follow the stream down. Altogether though it's a great walk to do if you have just got into walking or are limited for time and want to have a couple of hours in the hills. Pick a nice day though for full effect.

Whilst we were on this walk Vicky made a friend in the way of a sheep....well she helped it out of the river! Very funny and I thought I better explain the picture below. All in all a great short walk, although my name was mud for the first 45 minutes!
