Snowdonia (Tryfan and the Glyders)

This was an excellent route and took in the north face of Tryfan, the Cantilever and various summits of the Glyders. The scrambling was great and the views were well worth the climb. There are so many varied routes around this area you can make the scrambling or climbing as hard as you like. To follow the route we did that day you can follow it on your map using the information below. One of the classic walking and scrambling routes in the UK.

Bochlwyd Horseshoe with Y Garn extension * Park at GR 662603 elevation 300m * Scramble Tryfan North Ridge Grade 1 scramble, moving right to add difficulty (most scenarios escapable to left) * Approximately 2 hours brings you to summit 915m where a jump between Adam and Eve is obligatory. Wind making it all the more interesting *
Decent to col via south ridge avoiding difficulties to the west side. * Ascent of Glyder Fach via Bristly Ridge Grade 1 scramble with more exposure then previous (approx 1 hour) * Enjoy airy position of Great Pinnacle Gap then easier ground leads to Cantilever and Summit 994m * Up over Castell Y Gwynt then a short flat walk in a west-southwest direction leads to summit of Glyder Fawr (difficult navigation in clouds or winter conditions)

* Descent to Llyn y Cwm 710m (Good sport for a break tucked behind some rocks) * Ascend Y Garn via southeast ridge (Straight forward easy angle) * Descend from Y Garn to Lake Idwal via ridge pointing in northeast direction. GR631598 * Hot Tea and or Cider available at Idwal Cottage * Short walk back to car along road * Total average time 7 to 8 hours. A.Caird
