Rocket Luge

Yes that is a bloke on a luge with rockets coming out of the end. It's called a rocket Luge and was invented by Billy Copeland or "The Rocket Man" .

After seeing other people luging he decided to build his own and take up the sport. But there was always something missing. Whilst watching TV one night a program came on about rockets and suddenly everything came together. That was how he was going to make his luge go faster than anybody else. Rocket power!! In 1996 he took his first test run with a few nerves jangling on the prospects of what might happen. But like a true dare devil he fired them up to see anyway.
Allot of smoke and a little power wasn't enough. So the number of rockets grew and so did the smoke and the power. Each rocket only burns for about 2 seconds but used together gives the amount of thrust wanted. Not everything goes to plan and in one instance the rockets melted the back end of the luge into a tangled mess of wire, aluminum and various other parts all in front of a newspaper photographer. But learning from mistakes he now has it running smoothly.

His world record currently stands at 98.5 mph which is fast on anything, but a luge that close to the floor must be pretty hairy.

Please do not attempt to copy him in anyway. Remember we are dealing with rockets, tarmac, speeds of nearly 100 mph and you, which could end in you getting hurt or worse. As you can see from the pictures on this page he is wearing allot of protection and has slowly built up to these speeds. We suggest you leave it to him to thrill the crowds.

This is the rocket man and one of his sons before the filming of a record attempt.

He is currently trying to get into the film industry with his rocket luge, so if there are any budding directors out there who want to add a bit of speed and firepower to their films or adverts here's your man. "The Rocket man"

Everybody involved with this site would love to see this in a film.
