Perranporth beach is basically split into two different areas- Droskyn which is the main beach in front of the town and Penhale which is up the opposite end from the town. Droskyn is usually at it's best around mid tide when you can get a long ride from the wave which breaks off the headland. But it also has fairly strong rips when the tide turns so is your are fairly new to surfing it's best to stay away from the headland. A good choice instead is the flagged area in front of the Watering Hole where life guards are present on the beach for most of the year. There is a car park on the headland and from here you can walk down a path straight to the beach. The other end of the beach, known as Penhale is a longer walk across the dunes but you can be rewarded with a long ride from the waves which break on the rocks at the northern end. All in all a great beach for all types of surfer.
There is hire available from most of the surf shops in the area and prices are fairly good. Check them out:-
