Woolacombe Bay is ideal for beginners and the more experienced alike. It is a three mile long sandy beach surrounded by sand dunes and the surf works well at all stages of the tide with lefts and rights. These average between 1 and 3 feet but can reach 9 feet. There is plenty of parking in Woolacombe which is practically on the beach. So there is not a lot of walking needed to get to the beach. There is also a good assortment of surf shops, pubs and gift shops. The bars and pubs in Woolacombe are reasonably priced for meals and drinks and the decor in some of them are great. Check out the boards in the Red Barn. At the height of the season especially on the weekends, the beach can become very crowded, so you might want to walk or park further up the beach. If the surf is down there are other things to do in the area which include off-road driving and horse riding.
